Terms of Service

Last updated November 5, 2026

These terms are the rules for using thehardlook.co. By using the site, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

Who we are

The Hard Look is run by Alphein Koshy, doing business as The Hard Look, in New York, United States. In these terms, “we,” “us” and “our” mean Alphein Koshy. You can reach us at hello@thehardlook.co.

What this site is

This site introduces The Hard Look: A 30-Day Reflective Devotional and a companion app. It includes a practice reflection you can try. Details about the devotional and the app, including when they will be available, can change. Nothing on this site is a promise that either will be released in a particular form or on a particular date.

Nothing is for sale through this site today. If that changes, we will show any additional terms, such as prices and refund rules, before you buy.

Who can use it

You must be at least 13 to use this site. If you are under 18, please use it with the permission of a parent or guardian.

Not professional advice

The Hard Look offers spiritual reflection and personal writing. It is not medical, mental health, legal or financial advice, and it does not replace care from a qualified professional or your own judgment.

If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, please reach out for help right now. In the United States, you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency number.

Our content

The writing, photographs, designs, logos and other material on this site belong to us or to those who license them to us, and they are protected by law. You may view the site and share links to it for personal, non-commercial use. Please ask us first before copying, republishing, selling or adapting anything here. The name The Hard Look and its logo identify our work, and you may not use them in a way that suggests we endorse you or something else.

Using the site fairly

Please don’t use this site to break the law or infringe anyone’s rights. Please don’t try to disrupt it, get around its security, gain unauthorized access to it, or use automated tools to scrape or overload it.

What you write and send

What you write in the practice reflection stays in your browser and is not sent to us. See the Privacy Policy. If you send us feedback or ideas, you let us use them without owing you anything, and you confirm that you have the right to share them.

Links to other sites

This site links to services we don’t run, such as Substack. Those services have their own terms and privacy policies, and we aren’t responsible for them.

No warranties

We work to keep this site accurate and available, but we provide it “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

Limits on our liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or goodwill, that come from your use of this site. Our total liability for any claim about this site is limited to 100 U.S. dollars. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits a right that the law says cannot be limited.

Your responsibility

If your misuse of this site or your breach of these terms leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of that claim, to the extent the law allows.

Disputes

If something goes wrong, please email us first, and we will try to work it out with you. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute that can’t be resolved that way will be handled in the state or federal courts located in New York, and you and we agree to those courts’ jurisdiction. If you live somewhere that gives you the right to bring a claim in your home courts or under your local consumer law, this section doesn’t take that right away.

Changes and other terms

We may change these terms or the site, and we may suspend or stop either one at any time. When we change these terms, we will update the date at the top of this page. If you keep using the site after that, the new terms apply. If part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. These terms are the whole agreement between you and us about the site.
